Emilia Gambardella received her PhD in Comparative Literature with a specialization in Italian from The Graduate Center, CUNY, where her dissertation focused on the animated works of Italian filmmaker Bruno Bozzetto. Her research interests include Italian cinema, 20th and 21st century Italy, animation, film theory, television, and pop culture.
Prior to teaching at Barnard, Emilia taught elementary and intermediate Italian language and culture at Hunter College, CUNY and Sarah Lawrence College. She has also taught Italian language classes for adult learners in New York City.
